Conductor cancels opera after car accident

Maestro Chung Myung-whun canceled his plans to conduct an opera at an Italian theater due to injuries sustained in a traffic accident, according to the theater’s website on Thursday.

He was scheduled to lead the opera “La Boheme” on March 16-25 at the La Fenice theater in Venice.

“Chung became unable to conduct because of a traffic accident,” the La Fenice theater said in a notice. “His injury was not serious but was enough to require some rest.”

“He was injured when his car was hit by a truck,” said an aide to Chung. “Fortunately, he wasn’t too hurt. He was discharged from hospital after three days.”

But he will stay away from work for two weeks as recommended by his doctor, the aide said. Yonhap
