Genesis unveiled its first full-on electric car on Thursday, and it’s a stunner.

Hyundai Motor’s standalone luxury brand showed off its sleek, all-electric Essentia grand tourer this Thursday ahead of the 2018 New York International Auto Show, which starts today.

The Essentia is a sporty two-seater concept that gives off a premium impression inside and out.

Hyundai Motor Vice Chairman Chung Eui-sun made an appearance at the company’s booth on Thursday along with other top brass.

“We understand our obligation as a luxury car manufacturer to create objects of desire, sparking passion and inspiration by emphasizing culture while exceeding expectations in terms of technology and connectivity,” said Manfred Fitzgerald, global head of the Genesis brand, on Thursday.

The car is equipped with flashy butterfly doors and the brand’s signature crest grille.

Genesis said that the Essentia can reach a speed of 100 kilometers (62 miles) per hour in less than 3 seconds.

Genesis has promised that it will have six cars in its lineup by 2021, three of which are already in production - the G90, G80 and G70 sedans. The GV80 concept car, unveiled in 2017, is expected to go into production next year. Genesis wouldn’t say whether the Essentia will enter production.
