Park Hyeon-joo, the founder and chairman of Mirae Asset Financial Group, has donated 1.6 billion won worth of stock dividends to his company’s charity, which focuses on children and education.

He agreed to donate the money during Mirae Asset’s shareholders’ meeting last month.

The chairman’s contributions will be sent to the Mirae Asset Park Hyeon Joo Foundation to be used for social welfare projects, according to Mirae Asset Global Investment on Monday.

The foundation funds regional children’s centers and scholarships through the brokerage firm’s donations. With the expanded funds, the foundation will increase the number of student who can take advantage of its overseas exchange student program from 500 to 600 starting this year.

Park has been donating his dividends every year since 2010, at his total contributions amount to 21.6 billion won.
