Emart partners with Spar to export products to China

Emart will boost exports to China in partnership with Spar International, a Dutch-based global retailer.

CEOs Lee Gap-su of Emart and Tobias Wasmuht of Spar International met at the local discount chain’s Seoul headquarters in northern Seoul on Wednesday to sign a memorandum of understanding.

Under the deal, Emart will offer goods from Korean manufacturers and its in-house labels No Brand, Peacock and Scentence to over 400 brick-and-mortar stores that Spar operates in China. Spar runs retailers in 47 countries and the China business in is its third-largest.

For Emart, which pulled out of China last year due to continuous losses, the contract with Spar is a second chance in the foreign market. The partnership with Spar is also a significant one, says the company, as Spar’s extensive sales network covers many countries.
