‘Produce 48’ is premiering on Mnet June 15

Mnet’s latest singing competition program, “Produce 48,” will premiere on June 15 at 11 p.m., according to local media outlet TV Report on Thursday.

“Produce 48” is the third season of the “Produce 101” series, but it is different from its previous iterations in that the contestants are idol trainees from both Korea and Japan. The show is a collaboration program between Mnet and Japanese producer Yasushi Akimoto.

The program will be led by singer and actor Lee Seung-gi as the local producer. Lee will also be joined by others who will be training and critiquing the different skills that the contestants have. Lee Hong-ki of band FT Island and Soyou, formerly of the now-disbanded girl group Sistar, will be vocal trainers, rapper Cheetah will be a rap coach and choreographers Bae Yoon-jung, Choi Young-jun and May J Lee will oversee choreography.

“Produce 48” began shooting in April and 96 trainees have been chosen. The trainees appeared for the very first time on television on Thursday, performing the show’s theme song “Pick Me” on the Mnet music program “M Countdown.”
