The company announced Thursday that the new recruit is part of a drive to reinforce its competitiveness in future mobility technologies after spinning off its after-sales and module businesses to Hyundai Glovis. It pledged last month to simplify its business divisions to focus on future technology in preparation for the autonomous car era.
Weiss has been appointed as the vice president of Hyundai Mobis’ In Vehicle Infotainment-Software division. This is the first time Hyundai Mobis has hired a software expert. Infotainment is a vital element of the connected car and is closely related to the way vehicles communicate with each other and receive information such as road conditions.
Weiss will lead the development of Hyundai Mobis’ infotainment platform, which will be called Genivi.
Hyundai Mobis is planning to develop an infotainment platform named Genivi under Weiss’ guidance.
The auto parts affiliate is also banking on Weiss to fortify the software’s cybersecurity, as the former Continental researcher played a vital role in establishing a cybersecurity center at the German company.
Last year, Hyundai Mobis recruited Gregory Baratoff as the vice president of the company’s Driver Assistance System Development and Mirco Goetz as the director of the lamp design team.
