3rd Moon-Kim summit in Pyongyang in Sept.

The leaders of the two Koreas will meet in the North Korean capital of Pyongyang next month for a third summit, senior officials from the South and North agreed Monday.

다음달 북한의 수도 평양에서 3차 남북 정상회담을 열기로 월요일 남북고위급 회담에서 합의했다.
Ri Son-gwon, chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Country, which handles relations with the South, made the announcement after a meeting with his South Korean counterpart, Cho Myoung-gyon, at the border village of Panmunjom. “[The summit] will be held in September,” Ri said.

판문점에서 남한의 조명균 통일부 장관과 회담을 한뒤 북한의 대남기구 조국평화통일위원회 리선권 위원장이 이같이 발표했다. 리 위원장은 “[정상회담]은 9월에 열릴 것입니다”고 말했다.
However, the two sides did not agree on an exact date. A summit in September will be tricky to schedule because North Korea celebrates the anniversary of its founding on Sept. 9.

그러나 양측은 정상회담 개최 날짜에는 합의하지 못했다. 9월9일이 북한의 건국절이기 때문에 9월 중에 정상회담 날짜를 선택하는 것은 까다로운 일이다.
Another variable is the United Nations General Assembly, which starts on Sept. 18. There is a chance that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un could push for a summit with South Korean President Moon Jae-in before the assembly.

다른 변수는 유엔총회가 9월18일부터 시작되는 것이다. 북한 지도자 김정은이 유엔총회 이전에 문재인 대통령과 정상회담을 개최하자고 요구할 수 있다.
If Kim is hoping to attend the UN General Assembly, which will cast him under intense media spotlight, the summit could take place sometime between Sept. 9 and 18. Cho, the unification minister, said in a news briefing that the two sides would continue to discuss a date.

김 위원장이 유엔총회에 참석하겠다고 하면 언론의 주목을 집중적으로 받을 것이고, 정상회담은 9월9일에서 18일 사이에 열릴 수 있다. 조명균 통일부 장관은 기자들에게 남북 양측은 정상회담 날짜를 계속 조율할 것이라고 말했다.
“Since the fall summit will be held in Pyongyang as agreed upon in the Panmunjom Declaration, the opinions of the North on this matter are very important,” Cho said. “We have agreed that the summit should be held sooner rather than later.”

조 장관은 “판문점 선언에서 가을에 평양에서 정상회담을 열기로 이미 합의됐기 때문에 이 사안은 북한의 의견이 매우 중요하다. 차라리 일찌감치 정상회담을 열어야 한다는데 합의했다”고 말했다.
Moon and Kim agreed to meet in Pyongyang in the fall during their first face-to-face meeting in April in Panmunjom. In recent weeks, there have been calls for them to meet even sooner to resolve an impasse between North Korea and the United States on the North’s denuclearization.

문 대통령과 김 위원장은 4월 판문점 첫 정상회담에서 가을에 평양에서 만나자고 합의했다. 최근 몇 주 동안 북한의 비핵화 의제를 두고 교착상태에 빠진 북미 대화에 돌파구를 마련하기 위해 더욱 이른 시기에 남북 정상회담을 열어야 한다는 주장들이 나왔었다.
