Soongsil University has introduced a new course that gives graduate students the tools they need to navigate society in a time when technology and the way we use it is rapidly changing.

The university’s new “4th Industrial Revolution Higher Level Course” at the Graduate School of Information Science is the first course in Korea designed to prepare students and future leaders for the fourth industrial revolution, according to Choi Hyung-il, director of the graduate school.

Soongsil University has long been a pioneer in the field of ICT education. The university created its Department of Electronic Computing in 1969 and opened the Graduate School of Information Science in 1987. In 2006, the university merged the College of Information Sciences with the School of Electronic Engineering to create the College of Information Technology, establishing itself as a true IT university.

The new course will concentrate on a number of different aspects of the fourth industrial revolution: business strategy, commercial strategy, software, artificial intelligence, cloud technology and robotics.

This course will start in October this year, running for 15 weeks until Jan. 14. The students are mostly expected to be representatives and executives from businesses, public institutions, research institutes and specialist groups related to the fourth industrial revolution. A total of forty students can sign up for the course.

“In the era of the fourth industrial revolution, technological development is creating a new type of economic system,” said Choi. “We have set up [this course] with the help of executives and experts in order to understand the changes of the times and to establish leadership. It is very important that corporate executives, employees and experts understand and prepare for the fourth industrial revolution era.”

Participants in the fourth industrial revolution course can go on to pursue graduate studies at Soongsil University. Upon completing the course, students can go on to postgraduate and PhD studies at the university, either in the information science graduate school or in the general graduate school.

Applications can be made by emailing itmba@ssu.ac.kr or visiting the admissions office at 654 Westminster Hall in the Graduate School of Information Science at Soongsil University near Soongsil University station on Line 7 in southern Seoul.
