Do your weekly shop from the sofaFrom Thursday, Lotte Super customers will be able to order their groceries using just their voice and mobile carrier KT’s AI voice assistant GIGA Genie.
The service was developed by Lotte Shopping’s e-commerce division established last month. Using the GIGA Genie speaker, consumers can order items by voice command.
The consumer first has to call out “GIGA Genie, activate Lotte Super” in Korean. They can then request to see a full list of products in a particular category on the television screen by calling out a sentence with the word “search.” Each item will be numbered so that the user can specify which product on the page should be ordered.
Ordering while watching television programs is also possible. For example, if a consumer requests GIGA Genie to “buy two units of tofu at Lotte Super,” the AI assistant will automatically place an order for two packs of the tofu that the consumer has previously purchased. If they’ve never bought the product before, the app will pick a bestseller instead.
Deliveries can be made on the same day if the order is submitted before 6 p.m. The service is available for residents in Seoul for now, a company spokesman said. About 6,000 products are available for purchase through the AI speaker, although this figure will slightly differ depending on where a customer lives.
For security issues, payments can be made after a user inputs a personal identification number from Lotte. The company plans to add voice recognition as a way to identify its clients.
