After a disappointing seventh place finish, the Lotte Giants parted ways with manager Cho Won-woo and re-appointed Yang Sang-moon on Friday.
The Giants announced that they signed a two-year contract with Yang — 300 million won ($264,760) in annual salary and another 300 million won for a signing bonus.
Yang has a lot of history with the club. He made his KBO debut after getting drafted by the Giants in 1985. Then, once he retired in 1993, Yang returned to the Giants as the club’s pitching coach before being appointed as manager in 2004.
“I am having a lot of concerns regarding the direction of the team,” Yang said. “I’ll try my best to make a team that can repay to the love and attention received from the fans.”
With Yang’s signing, the Giants became the third club, after the KT Wiz and NC Dinos, to change managers this season.
