Ma’s latest film sold to 11 countries

The film “The Villagers” (working title) starring popular actor Ma Dong-seok has already been sold to 11 countries prior to its official release today in Korea.

According to film distributor Little Big Pictures on Tuesday, the action-thriller film was sold to buyers from Hong Kong, Taiwan, the United States, Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Brunei, Macau and Timor-Leste at the 2018 American Film Market in California - one of the biggest film industry events - on Nov. 1.

The movie, directed by Lim Jin-sun, features the mysterious disappearance of a schoolgirl in a small village. As Yeok Gi-cheol, played by Ma, moves into the village as the new physical education teacher, he finds it strange how most people in the town act indifferent to the disappearance except the missing girl’s friend Kang Yu-jin, played by Kim Sae-ron. The two team up to track the girl’s disappearance while someone tries to erase the traces of the missing girl.

This is Ma’s third film released this year, following “Champion” and “The Soul-Mate.” He is also starring in the film “Unstoppable” which is set to release on Nov. 22.
