Twice to embark on Japanese tour

Twice will become the first K-pop girl group to hold a tour of Japanese domes next spring, the group’s management agency said Thursday.

The nine-member group will hold four performances: at the Osaka Kyocera Dome on March 21, at the Tokyo Dome on March 29-30, and the Nogoya Dome on April 6, JYP Entertainment said.

Kara, now disbanded, performed at the Tokyo Dome in Jan. 2013 and became the first Korean girl group to have a concert at a Japanese dome, but Twice is the first to tour multiple Japanese domes.

Twice is also scheduled to appear on the Japanese national broadcaster NHK’s “Kohaku Uta Gassen,” the most popular year-end music program in the country, for the second year in a row, on Dec. 31.

It became the only K-pop act included in the show after popular boy band BTS was excluded over a controversial T-shirt worn by member Jimin.

On Nov. 5, the girl group topped Japan’s Oricon albums chart with its latest EP, “Yes or Yes.”

The band has sold more than 1.2 million copies of their albums in both Korea and Japan this year alone.
