Cho Yong-pil to get special award

Singer Cho Yong-pil will be given the “Thanks to You” award at the 2018 Korea Popular Music Awards (KPMA), which is set to take place on Dec. 20 at the Korea International Exhibition & Convention Center (Kintex) in Goyang Province.

The ceremony is jointly hosted by six organizations related to the music and entertainment industry that honors excellence in popular music.

According to the hosts of KPMA, the “Thanks to You” award is a tribute to a senior singer who has “given hope to younger singers and offered a stage for them to develop.”

“Cho has been leading the Korean music industry as an influential senior singer for 50 years, so we all agreed that he is the one to be honored the award,” they added.

“Thanks to You” is also the title of Cho’s latest concert series celebrating his 50th anniversary as a singer. Cho made his debut in 1968 with the rock band Atkins, and since then he had released 19 solo albums.
