Maximite found guilty of assault

Just a week after 28-year-old music producer Maximite was found guilty of drug use, he was found guilty of assaulting his girlfriend, and forced to pay a fine of 3 million won ($2,655).

Maximite, whose real name is Shin Min-chul, was charged with assault in May after an incident involving his girlfriend occurred in September 2017 at a residence in Seoul. His girlfriend alleged that she was grabbed by the hair, had a liter of water poured on her body and was hit multiple times during an altercation between the two.

The court found the producer guilty, despite the fact that he had denied some of the charges made against him.

“We found him guilty based on the victim’s testimonies, a prescription note [from the doctor] and pictures of the damage,” said the court. “The defendant’s explanation of the situation may help reduce the sentence to a certain amount, but not enough to prove that the assault was not committed intentionally.”

Maximite was found guilty of drug use on Dec. 6. The court charged him for buying five tabs of LSD and using two of them in October 2016. He is the producer behind the theme song for the first season of Mnet’s idol audition program “Produce 101” (2016), titled “Pick Me” (2015).
