Samsung Electronics opts for stability with reshuffle

Samsung Electronics made only minor changes in its year-end corporate reshuffle, the company said Tuesday.

The move signals that the tech company is up for a year of stability rather than rapid expansion or exploring new business fields as it faces multiple uncertainties in its businesses in 2019.

The company has three major business divisions: device solutions (including semiconductors), IT & mobile communication, and consumer electronics. Samsung also has smaller organizations that take charge of specific business areas.

Most team heads remained in their posts, with the exception of the Network Business team. Cheun Kyung-whoon was appointed to head that team that mainly deals with 5G-network equipment. A former professor at Pohang University of Science and Technology, Cheun has been involved in developing 5G-network equipment.

“Cheun has engineering expertise in 5G networks, and with the 5G market anticipated to grow next year, he was appointed to reinforce the business,” Samsung said.
