SsangYong inks partnership for high-definition maps
SsangYong Motor signed a memorandum of understanding with SK Telecom and map-solution provider Here to co-develop high-definition maps for autonomous cars.Under the partnership, SsangYong Motor will be in charge of the software that utilizes data from the high-definition map. SKT will provide network services to update the maps in real time. Here will be in charge of making the high-definition maps themselves.
High-definition maps help Level 3 autonomous cars change lanes safely and utilize real-time data on traffic.
“Through the MOU, SsangYong Motor expects to develop advanced autonomous driving technology,” said Choi Johng-sik, CEO of SsangYong Motor. “SsangYong Motor will preemptively respond to the paradigm shift in the auto industry with autonomous-car and connected-car technology.”
