GS group gives 4 billion won to Community Chest of Korea

Huh Chang-soo

GS Group donated 4 billion won ($3.5 million) to the Community Chest of Korea on Tuesday.

The donation will be used by the non-profit organization to help people in need.

“The whole society needs to participate in making our society a better place to live,” said GS Chairman Huh Chang-soo. “Corporations especially need to take on a responsibility to play fair and grow together with society.”

Apart from the donation, each GS affiliate is participating in different corporate social responsibility programs.

Oil refiner GS Caltex is running 23 volunteer programs including making kimchi to give out and delivering heating fuel. About 750 employees and their family members will participate in the programs.

GS Retail has 64 volunteer groups scattered in different regions. They help out with cleaning at nursing homes and orphanages and give out food to homeless people.

GS Home Shopping supports sales of products made by social enterprises that hire socially vulnerable groups of people.
