Son Seung-won injures two

Actor Son Seung-won injured two people while driving drunk early Wednesday morning in Cheongdam-dong, southern Seoul, according to the police.

Gangnam Police Station stated that Son was driving a car owned by his father Wednesday at around 4:20 a.m. when he rammed into a car heading in the opposite direction.

Son had a blood alcohol content level of 0.206 percent, enough to cancel his license.

The two people in the car he hit - a chauffeur in his 50s and the owner of the car in his 20s - were both transported to the hospital.

According to the police, Son drove away from the site without stopping for about 150 meters (492 feet) before being caught by taxi drivers nearby.

It’s been just over a week after a new drunk driving law went into effect on Dec. 18. It looks like Son will become the first celebrity to face the tougher punishments for driving drunk under the new law.

As Son’s driver’s license had already been taken away on Nov. 18 for driving drunk earlier in September, he may face punishment of two to five years in prison or a fine of between 10 million won ($8,880) to 20 million won. The fact that he fled the scene may add to his punishment.

Son, 28, made his debut in 2009 as a musical actor and moved on to television in 2014.

Son has been taken off the cast of the play “Rimbaud,” which he was starring in, and two performances of the play scheduled for Sunday were canceled.
