The Korean Route Expedition of the Korea Polar Research Institute (KORI) explores inland Antarctica to trailblaze Korea’s own route to the South Pole by the end of 2020, with the aim of becoming the sixth country to have a research station there. The distance of the Korean route will be 1,700 kilometers (1056 miles) from KORI’s Jang Bogo Antarctic Research Station. The expedition has so far maneuvered 720 kilometers of the route since it began exploration in early November. [YONHAP]
