LS C&S to supply cables for offshore Taiwan wind farm

LS Cable & System (LS C&S) said Monday that it has won a contract from a German wind power company to supply submarine cables to an offshore wind farm in Taiwan.

According to the Korean cablemaker, the company will supply 170 kilometers (105 miles) of submarine cables to be used in the wind power complex built by YunNeng Wind Power Company.

YunNeng Wind Power Company is part of the wpd group, a major wind power company in Germany.

This is the first time a Korean cablemaker will export submarine cables to Taiwan, according to LS C&S.

LS C&S’ deal comes as Taiwan prepares for new renewable energy sources with its scheduled shutdown of nuclear power plants.

Taiwan will invest $23 billion in the construction of a 5.5-gigawatt wind power complex.
