‘Burning’ wins French critics award
Korean film “Burning” won the Best Foreign Language Film Award from the French Union of Film Critics, its producer said Friday.The movie by director Lee Chang-dong competed with other films, including “Manbiki Kazoku,” “First Man,” “The Guilty,” “Isle of Dogs” and “Phantom Thread,” for the French award, according to Pine House Film.
“Burning” was invited to the Cannes Film Festival last May and won best foreign film awards from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the Toronto Film Critics Association.
In addition, “Burning” has become the first Korean film shortlisted for the Foreign Language Film award by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The finalists will be announced on Jan. 22.
Lee’s first feature in eight years, “Burning,” starring Yoo Ah-in, Steven Yeun and Jeon Jong-seo, depicts the insecurity, helplessness and anger of young Koreans through the story of a part-time delivery man and aspiring novelist, and two of his friends.
