SsangYong Motor is bolstering its crossover sport-utility vehicle (SUV) lineup with its new Korando.
The automaker unveiled the vehicle Monday, announcing it will be up for presales at its showrooms and also through online shopping website 11st.
SsangYong’s latest offering, which comes equipped with a 1.6-liter diesel engine and a roomy 551-liter (19.46-cubic-foot) trunk, will replace the company’s existing vehicles under the Korando label, such as the Korando C.
Korando models experienced declining sales in recent years, while small-sized SUVs, such as SsangYong’s Tivoli, saw success.
SsangYong said it added smart safety features to the SUV’s base trim, including lane-keep assist and driver-attention alert.
The vehicle is expected to go head to head with established local models in the segment such as Hyundai Motor’s Tucson and Kia Motors’ Sportage.
The automaker is keeping the new Korando’s prices competitive, with the base model expected to cost from 22.16 million won ($19,700). A comparable diesel model Tucson starts at 23.81 million won.
