Sumi Jo to perform at KBS2 show

Grammy Award-winning soprano Sumi Jo will be performing a special song titled “I’m a Korean” at the upcoming KBS2’s concert “100 Years of Spring,” celebrating the centennial anniversary of the March 1 Independence Movement.

The concert, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, will be held on Feb. 28 at the Independence Hall of Korea in Cheonan, South Chungcheong, and will be hosted by actor Kim You-jung and singer-turned-actor Jinyoung. It will also be airing live through channels KBS 2TV and KBS World, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:05 p.m.

Jo’s song, which will be officially released on March 1 through various music streaming services, will reflect on the country’s past and wish for a better future.

Jo, who made her operatic debut in 1986 at the Teatro Comunale Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste, Italy, is now a world-class soprano who performed in major cities around the world, including Belgium, Paris, Barcelona in Spain, Buenos Aires and Beijing.

She also performed the song “Here As One” at the opening ceremony of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Paralympics on March 9 last year.
