Lineage M upgrades announced
Lineage M is the mobile version of the company’s massively multiplayer online role-playing (Mmorpg) PC game that was huge success in the early 2000s.
The mobile version has been its recent cash cow. It is the No. 1 app in Google Play by revenue.
According to a demonstration video played during a press conference on Friday, the voice command will allow users to control their characters inside the game without touching the screen. NCSoft executives said they are interested in adopting the voice command feature to other games as well.
“A team dedicated to artificial intelligence technology is undertaking the development,” said Lee Sung-gu, NCSoft’s Lineage business unit head. “At first, we started with the idea of enabling voice commands for simple tasks, but decided we should extend it to every playing experience.”
NCSoft also announced a list of updates and promotions planned for this year.
A notable development to come is the “Master Server,” which will allow players on 160 servers to compete with each other.
Every Lineage player is connected to a specific server and typically interacts only with others on the same server. They rarely meet players on other servers.
The multiple-server design prevents overloading and system crashes.
“Compared to PC games, mobile games can’t accommodate a massive number of users,” said Sim Seung-bo, NCSoft’s chief publishing director.
“Last year, we launched the World Dungeon service that enables 10 servers to engage in survival games.
The response was positive, but we didn’t think this was enough. The Master Server will be a first attempt of its kind in mobile games and a starting point to maximize the fun with large-scale battles on the Mmorpg Lineage.”
MCSoft will also be taking autoplay to the next level. Autoplay is a function that allows a character to autonomously operate and level up on its own.
The upgrade is called “unconnected play.”
On Lineage M, users at higher levels can utilize shortcuts that allow them to level up without bothering with smaller tasks usually required to climb the ladder.
Unconnected Play will enable autoplay to roll even if a user is disconnected from the internet, accelerating the process.
