Opening: GLAD Live Gangnam, known as a “Playground for Trendsetters,” has opened a Chinese restaurant & bar named Lee Ma Jean, which specializes in modern Chinese cuisine.
Lee Ma Jean offers dishes from various styles of Chinese cuisine from around the world. The restaurant’s interior is lit in blue, a refreshing contrast to the red decor commonly found in local Chinese restaurants. The name Lee Ma Jean originates from the last names of three people currently working at Vault+82, a popular whisky bar in Hannam-dong, central Seoul.
Chef Lee Kang-hoon has experience working at restaurants in Britain, including Michelin-star restaurant The Clove Club, Roka Aldwych London, Coq D’argent London and Twist Kitchen. At Lee Ma Jean, Lee presents modern Chinese dishes and suggests various cocktails, whiskey, wine and also teas that can be paired with dishes. The bar offers unique cocktails made of tea and Chinese liquors that are hard to experience anywhere else.
The signature menu includes chili crab & steam buns, a dish that reinterprets chili crabs from Singapore by placing coconut foam into spicy chili crab sauce and deep-fried soft shell crab and flower buns into a light dish, and sweet and sour pork with coriander, which combines coriander powder and citron sauce with Ibérico ribs.
The cocktail menu includes the “Digestive Negroni,” a sweet post-dinner drink and “The Cloud Dream of the Nine” a cocktail that tastes spicy because of syrup made with spice-infused vodka. Compared to other hotel restaurants, the menu at Lee Ma Jean includes many wallet-friendly dishes. Main dishes start at 10,000 won ($8.70) and cocktails begin at 17,000 won.
