Ulsan Hyundai Motors loses for the first time this season

Ulsan Hyundai Motors suffered its first loss of the season by losing 0-1 to Seongnam FC at Ulsan Munsu Football Stadium on Saturday.

While the two clubs were tied at 0-0, Kong Min-hyun broke the silence in the 31st minute to allow Seongnam to take the lead. Ulsan’s Junior Negrao quickly responded with a goal in the 43rd minute but was ruled offside.

Ulsan made a few more attempts in the second half of the match but they were all blocked by Seongnam’s goalkeeper, Kim Dong-jun.

In the first seven K League 1 matches this season, Ulsan hasn’t lost a match, as the club won five and tied two. Ulsan’s record gets even more impressive when including other tournaments. Since Ulsan’s AFC playoff game against Malaysian football club Perak FA in February, which it won 5-1, the club hasn’t lost a single match for nine consecutive games with six wins and three draws.

As Ulsan has won all six of its matches at home since February, its loss on Saturday is more disappointing.

With the loss, Ulsan is now ranked second with five wins, two draws and a loss, totaling 17 points. Jeonbuk is the leader in the standing. Although the two clubs have the exact same number of points, Jeonbuk is ahead in goal difference.
