Samsung Heavy takes on its 8th current LNG carrier order

Samsung Heavy Industries said Friday that it signed a $190 million deal to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier.

The shipbuilding company said in a regulatory filing that it will deliver the vessel to a customer in Oceania by March 2022. With the Friday announcement, Samsung Heavy is building eight out of the 16 orders for LNG carriers around the world.

Samsung Heavy has acquired $2.6 billion worth of deals so far this year. The company is looking to lock in $7.8 billion worth of deals by the end of 2019. The shipbuilding affiliate of Samsung Group secured orders worth $6 billion total last year, lower than its initial goal of $8.2 billion.
