Job seekers looking at a wide range of positions

“Security and janitorial” is the second most popular job category, according to the Ministry of Employment and Labor.

After analyzing the searches on its Work Net job portal from 2014 to 2018, the Labor Ministry found that security and janitorial jobs, which have low wages and require less skill, were popular due to searches from higher age groups.

The high popularity for such jobs was due to the fact that the number of job seekers in higher age groups has increased.

In 2014, job seekers in their 60s utilizing the job portal were 12.8 percent of the total. Last year, that number was up to 16.6 percent.

According to the Labor Ministry, the most-searched job category on the job portal was for managerial or clerical-related work, followed by security and janitorial jobs, with health care-related jobs in third place.

Young job seekers searched for jobs that have higher wages and require more creativity and less physical activity.

Jobs most searched by those in their 20s included accounting and clerical jobs, followed by culture, design and media jobs.

For that age group, the animal groomer category, which ranked as the 121st most searched category in 2014, rose to 90 in 2018.

Simple labor jobs grew in popularity for job seekers 40 and up. Caregivers ranked among the top 20 searched jobs for those in their 40s.

For job seekers in their 50s, caregivers ranked at the top spot, with janitors in third place, followed by housekeepers, kitchen assistants and security guards.

For those in their 60s, janitor, security guard and caregiver are the most searched jobs.

The fifth most search job for the age group was business in agriculture or fisheries.
