Park Yu-chun asks for lenience

A prosecutor asked a judge to sentence former celebrity Park Yu-chun to one year and six months in jail for drug abuse on Friday.

The prosecutor also asked the judge to order probation and mandatory medical treatment in case Park receives a suspended sentence.

“The defendant admits to all of his crimes and is feeling deeply remorseful for his past actions,” said Park’s lawyer. “Park started abusing drugs after he was accused of sexual assault in 2016. Even though he was found not guilty, the case was like a death sentence to a celebrity who lives on publicity.”

The lawyer stated that his client confessed to all of his crimes during the investigation and requested favorable arrangements as he has no past criminal record and has a mother and younger brother to take care of.

In his final testimony, Park broke down while stating, “I’ve truly realized the extent of my crimes as my family and friends came to visit me during visiting hours. I admit to all of my crimes and only feel remorse for my actions instead of blaming [my crimes] on someone else.”

The 33-year-old was arrested for purchasing and using methamphetamine multiple times with his former fiancée Hwang Ha-na, the granddaughter of the founder of Namyang Dairy early this year.

Park’s final hearing will be held on July 2.
