While members of the main opposition Liberty Korea Party (LKP) are bent on attacking President Moon Jae-in over what they call his “dictatorship,” Rep. Hong Moon-jong, an LKP member, plans to leave the party to join the ultraconservative Korean Patriots’ Party (KPP) led by Rep. Cho Won-jin, also a former LKP lawmaker. Hong expects some 40 to 50 LKP members to follow him and migrate to the KPP to help establish a new conservative party, provisionally dubbed the New Republican Party. Both Hong and Cho were avid loyalists of former President Park Geun-hye.
