Samsung SDI marks 49 years with a day at the ball game

Samsung SDI celebrated its 49th anniversary at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu on Friday.

To mark the occasion, the company secured 400 seats for its employees and families at the stadium, where the Samsung Lions faced the SK Wyverns.

Samsung SDI also invited special guests for the game’s ceremonial first pitch. Employee Kim Gwang-il’s parents, Kim Moon-su and Lee Hee-rye, both 59, were invited to the field.

Kim was selected after an internal competition in which he told the story of his mother, who was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2017. Kim and his wife live in Gumi, North Gyeongsang, and are unable to support his parents in Daejeon.

“For our corporate anniversary we wanted to share the happiness with our employees,” said Cho Jung-yong, a senior executives at Samsung SDI’s Gumi factory.
