Daegu Chimac Festival

Duryu Park, Daegu

From July 17 to 21

The Daegu Chimac Festival, which launched in 2013, attracts fans of chicken and beer, known as “chimac” in Korean.

“Chimac” or “chimaek,” a portmanteau of “chicken” and “maekju,” the Korean word for beer, is a favorite summer night meal for Koreans. It also became a craze among young Chinese after appearing in the mega-hit Korean TV series “My Love from the Star,” which was hugely popular in China.

Daegu has numerous poultry farms in the surrounding region and is the origin of several franchise brands that have made successful inroads into overseas markets.

Visitors can sample various brands of chicken, beer and side dishes from about 120 booths while enjoying concerts and other events.

Across Seoul

Ongoing

Seoul City Tour Bus now offers a chance to look around the city while being served food. The bus takes tourists to many different spots around the city while also providing a meal, allowing visitors to make the most of their time while traveling. Similar services are offered in other popular travel destinations, such as Paris or London, according to the bus operator.

The trolley-style bus - unlike any other bus running in Seoul - is decorated to give off a restaurant-like vibe once you sit down. The tables are sturdy and equipped with specially made holders so that plates and cups will remain still throughout the trip. Tables for four or two people are available.

There are two programs available. The Day Pack takes riders to many popular tourist destinations around central Seoul including Gyeongbok Palace, the traditional Insa-dong neighborhood, the National Museum of Korea and Mount Namsan, where many go to get an unhindered view of the capital city.

It takes about six hours for people to complete the tour included in the Day Pack. The bus leaves at 10 a.m. at Gwanghwamun or Seoul Station, and finishes the trip at 4 p.m.

The Night Pack includes stops at places where people can enjoy the night view of the city, including the 63 Building in Yeouido, western Seoul, the Han River and Sungnyemun in central Seoul. The night bus leaves at 7:30 p.m. from Gwanghwamun and then returns to Cheonggye Stream Plaza two hours later.

To celebrate the launch of the two packages, special discounts will be available until July 25. The Day Pack costs 42,000 won ($36.30) for adults and 38,000 won for children, while the Night Pack is 32,000 won for adults and 27,000 won for children. The tour runs daily, if there are more than 20 people signed up.

Seoul City Tour Bus, which began operations in 2000, offers many different bus tour programs in 12 different languages. For more information, go to
