Kim Hye-soo won't pay mom's debt

Kim Hye-soo won’t pay mom’s debt Actor Kim Hye-soo’s attorney Park Sung-cheol announced on Wednesday that Kim holds no legal responsibilities for her mother’s debts.

On Wednesday morning, CBS radio program Kim Hyun-jung’s News Show reported that Kim’s mother has borrowed over 1.3 billion won ($1.1 million) from her acquaintances over the years and has yet to pay back the sum.

Kim’s lawyer released a statement in response to the report saying, “Kim’s mother has been creating financial troubles for decades, in which Kim has no part of.”

Kim had been paying off her mother’s debts for years up until 2012, when the sum proved to be too much for the actor. The mother and the daughter have not been on speaking terms since then.

“Although Kim feels sorry for the lenders, she had no way of knowing about her mother’s actions. Since she is a celebrity and a well-known actor, she has been doing her best to cover up for her mother for years. When her attempts to prevent her mother failed, she finally cut off all contacts with her mother in 2012, but even such drastic actions have failed to halt her mother’s actions.”

“All the debts are the responsibility of Kim’s mother, not Kim,” Park continued. “There is no evidence pointing to Kim taking on her mother’s financial burden as she was completely oblivious to her mother’s actions.” The lawyer also emphasized that although Kim has been sued by the lenders before, the Supreme Court had ruled that Kim could not be held accountable for her mother’s debts.
