Sheet mask swindlers steal Song Joong-ki’s likeness
Fake “Song Joong-ki mask packs” are displayed at the Korea Intellectual Property Office in Daegu on Thursday. Officials seized six million units of the counterfeit sheet masks emblazoned with the face of the famous actor, worth 20 billion won ($17 million), and charged 10 people for manufacturing and distributing the product. The sheet masks were originally made by a local beauty brand between May 2016 and April 2017, under an official contract with Song. The counterfeits had identical packaging but did not actually contain any components to improve the skin. One of the people charged with the crime was a researcher that participated in developing the original product. [KOREAN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OFFICE]
