Kim Yeon-song takes a surprise lead at Bogner MBNKim Yeon-song and In Ju-yeon shot seven under par, 64, to share the lead after the first round of the 2019 Bogner MBN Women’s Open at The Star Hue Golf and Resort in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi, on Friday.
Both players shot bogey-free rounds. Kim made seven birdies while In’s first round scorecard includes five birdies and an eagle.
Kim’s name at the top of the leaderboard comes as a surprise as she is a relatively unknown player on the KLPGA Tour. Although she made her KLPGA Tour debut in 2008, she spent most of her career playing in the second tier, the Dream Tour.
In the past four seasons, Kim played full-time on the KLPGA Tour but because she failed to finish in the top 60 in the money ranking, she had to go through the qualifying school at the end of each season.
Following the two players, Kim Char-young sits at third, with a score of six under par, 65.
