‘Cheer Up, Mr. Lee’ will be French

The local film “Cheer Up, Mr. Lee,” which was released last Wednesday, will be remade in France, said the film distribution company Yong Film on Monday.

According to the company, it came to an agreement with the French film distribution and production company StudioCanal to remake the local film.

“We decided that ‘Cheer Up, Mr. Lee’ has the power to move a local audience and provide laughter [as well],” said the French company. “[The film] carries plenty of potential to be beloved by French moviegoers.”

SutdioCanal is a leading international film production and distribution company, responsible for such popular films such as the “Bridget Jones’s Diary” series and “Pride and Prejudice” (2005).

The film is about a dim-witted father and his daughter, who only become aware of each other’s existences later in life. The film covers the process of their bonding and also sheds light on the real-life tragedy of the 2003 Daegu subway fire that led to 192 casualties and 151 injuries.
