‘Analog Trip’ shows stars are humans too

During a press conference at the SMTOWN Theatre in southern Seoul on Friday, the producers and cast members - Yunho and Changmin of TVXQ and Eunhyuk, Leeteuk, Donghae and Shindong of Super Junior - revealed a little more of what to expect from “Analog Trip.”
“I and Donghae have a lot of memories as trainees with Yunho and Changmin,” said Eunhyuk of Super Junior. “Rather than feeling like a trip, our time in Indonesia felt like going to see relatives on holidays and talking about the good old times.”
The two groups both debuted under SM Entertainment after rigorous training in the early 2000s, even sharing the same accommodation. “Analog Trip” is an attempt to bring members back to the year 2002, before they were famous, and set the mood for them to have heart-felt chats about the past away from the distractions of modern-day devices.
Producer Kim Ji-sun of SM Culture & Contents (SM C&C) and Kohta Asakura, the YouTube Originals APAC Lead were also present at the conference.
According to Kim, “‘Analog Trip’ is a modern documentary. It has the entertainment factor of a variety show but is also like a documentary that allows people around the world to enjoy it without facing language barriers.”
The decision to go to Yogyakarta, Indonesia to film was made because “artefacts are preserved so well. Like on a school trip, we thought members would be able to discover and explore things by themselves.”
“We are also leaving the possibility open for future seasons with various artists and different locations,” she added.
Asakura emphasized that “Analog Trip” would allow fans to realize that behind all the glamor and fame, TVXQ and Super Junior were just like regular people.
“As K-pop has grown around the world, K-pop artists take on a heroic, almost mythical status. Our hope with this show is that people can see these superstars are human.”
“Analog Trip” will be released on YouTube on Oct. 9 at 10 p.m. YouTube Premium users can access all 12 episodes that day, while SMTOWN will upload new episodes every week for regular users on their YouTube channel.
