Even religious reformists were concerned that the authority of the church would fall, and ①intellectual level of the general public would be enhanced. German religious reform visionary Johann Geiler said that giving a bible to ordinary ②believers ③is like “④give a child a knife to cut bread for ⑤itself.” Geiler believed that monopoly of knowledge should be broken, but he was worried of ⑥flooding of knowledge.

①intellectual level of the general public would be enhance. → ①intellect of the general public would increase

Johann Geiler said that giving a bible to ordinary ②believers ③is like “④give a child a knife to cut bread for ⑤itself.”
→ Johann Geiler said that giving a bible to ordinary ②people ③was like “④giving a child a knife to cut bread for ⑤themselves.”

③시제일치, was로

⑤baby의 경우 성별을 모르면 it을 쓰지만 child의 경우는 그렇지 않음, child는 he or she여야하지만 근래에는 단수여도 them으로 받는 추세

but he was worried of ⑥flooding of knowledge. → but he was worried of ⑥ a flood of knowledge.

⑦They are arguing that → ⑦People argue that 새로운 문단이 시작되므로 대명사가 아닌 people로, 진행형은 일시적인 사건에 쓰이고 일반적인 경향에는 현재시제가 쓰임

⑧pursue profit → ⑧are in pursuit of profit
