Police open ‘Produce’ probe

Police will begin investigations into possible monetary transactions between the producers of the “Produce X 101” audition program and related personnel, following a report made by MBC’s “PD Notebook” on Tuesday evening saying that the program’s results were fabricated by producers.

According to the investigation program, the producers of “Produce X 101” - the latest season of the channel’s audition program franchise “Produce 101” - and 2017’s “Idol School” had secret ties with some of the entertainment agencies whose trainees participated in the show, often amending results in their favor or tipping them off with inside information.

An anonymous trainee who took part in “Produce X 101” said that the show’s contestants had initially chosen among themselves who would be at the center of the show’s first performance, but the producers abruptly announced that it will be chosen by “public vote.”

“Someone else was supposed to do it, but the producers just changed it out of nowhere,” he said.

“PD Notebook” also revealed that some contestants of “Idol School” didn’t even audition for the show but were cast as contestants anyway.

Police say that they have gotten a hold of the bank account of the executive producer of “Produce X 101” and will check to see if any inappropriate exchanges were made.

Five entertainment agencies are also under investigation, and the producers of “Idol School” are also set to be undergoing questioning.
