The new K5 has a more blunt frontal design integrating headlamps with the model’s signature grille, the second-largest automaker by sales in Korea said Tuesday. The model is known as the Optima in the United States.
The Kia Motors sedan is expected to compete against the Sonata sedan from Hyundai Motor, which is priced at 23.46 million won ($20,207) for the base model and hit the market in March this year.
The “Tiger Nose” radiator grille is now seamlessly connected with sharp, horizontal headlamps, and with a longer body and shorter height, the car offers a sportier look than the previous generation, introduced in 2015. The wider and bolder radiator grille design apparent in the new K5 may be used in to-be-introduced Kia Motors models.
For the upcoming K5, Kia Motors said its radiator grille has a “shark skin”-like grille surface to add sportiness and luxuriousness at the same time.
At 4.905 meters (16.09 feet), the K5 is 50 millimeters (1.97 inches) longer than its predecessor and 25 millimeters wider, at 1.86 meters, which is expected to provide more room for passengers inside. The car is also 20 millimeters lower than the previous K5, standing at 1.445 meters tall, the same height as the Sonata.
The K5 showcases a shorter trunk and a longer hood to maintain the dynamic lines which begin at the front. Sharp and long rear lamps are integrated into one to form the shape of a wing.
