On Friday morning, Yonhap reported that entertainment agencies Starship Entertainment, Woollim Entertainment, 8D Creative and Around Us Entertainment had wined and dined the producers of Mnet’s audition program “Produce X 101.”
According to Yonhap, eight people have been indicted recently due to the ongoing vote-rigging scandal surrounding the show.
Among them, three are the producers - Kim Yong-bum, Ahn Joon-young and another surnamed Lee - while five are staff members of entertainment agencies: two people from Starship, one from Woollim, one from 8D Creative and one from Around Us.
Whether the bribes actually had any effect on the final outcome of the show has not been verified, said Yonhap.
According to 8D Creative, the person - surnamed Ryu - who has been indicted for bribery was not working with the company at the time, and the company has nothing to do with the scandal.
“It happened after he quit last year and moved to another company,” 8D Creative said.
According to a statement from Around Us, an employee for the agency did buy drinks for the producers but did not make any requests.
The other two agencies have not commented on the matter yet.
