‘2 Days & 1 Night’ makes a return

KBS variety show “2 Days & 1 Night” kicked off its fourth season on Sunday, hitting a 15.7 percent viewership rating, according to Nielsen Korea.

Actor Youn Jung-hoon, singer DinDin, Ravi of the boy group Vixx and comedian Moon Se-yoon appeared as the new cast members of the show.

The show returned to TV after a nine-month hiatus after former cast members were embroiled in scandals. Singer Jung Joon-young was found to have been filming and sharing illegal sex videos of women via the KakaoTalk chat app, while Cha Tae-hyun and Kim Jun-ho were caught betting on the results of golf tournaments.

The only returning member of the show was singer Kim Jong-min.

The show mostly kept to its original format, with the cast members visiting popular tourist sites in Korea and carrying out a number of missions. They visited Danyang County of North Chungcheong for the first episode of the season and took a ferry in the famous scenic waterway among mountain peaks and cliffs that resemble old Asian paintings.

But some fans of the show noticed slight differences in how the show was produced and edited, as the main producer of the show changed from Kim Sung to Bang Geul-yi, the show’s first female lead producer. “The cast members are getting to know each other more, and as they do, we should be able to deliver enhanced contents over time,” she told Star News on Monday. Bang was previously the producer of “The Return of Superman,” a variety show on KBS that gives viewers a glimpse into what happens when celebrity fathers spend 48 hours with their children without their wives.
