Kim Gun-mo files a report to police

Singer Kim Gun-mo has reported the woman who accused him of sexual assault to police, his agency announced on Friday.

“Kim does not know this woman or the details of what she is accusing him of, so Kim is trying to find out what happened before he takes necessary actions,” Kim’s agency Guneum said in a written statement.

“But the woman’s lawyer Kang Yong-seok started spreading false information on YouTube, and we could not stand by doing nothing.”

The agency said they filed a report to police in Gangnam District, southern Seoul, accusing the woman of spreading false information about Kim, reporting him based on false information and violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection.

“We believe that the so-called Me Too movement should be protected but only on the grounds that the accusations are based on facts,” the agency said.

“The woman in question works at a brothel, and it seems that she used information about Kim that can be found online to concoct a story and make it appear real. Investigations will uncover the truth.”

The case dates back to Dec. 6 when lawyer Kang said, while appearing on the YouTube channel “Hover Lab,” that a 31-year-old woman told him that Kim had raped her at a bar in Gangnam District.

Kim, who debuted as a singer in 1992, remains active in Korea and is currently best known for his playful character on the SBS program “My Little Old Boy.”

The program showed Kim proposing to his fiancee, Jang Ji-youn, on Sunday. They have already submitted their official marriage paperwork and plan to have a wedding in May.
