AOA member donates to hospital

Girl group AOA member Kim Seol-hyun donated 50 million won ($43,000) to Samsung Medical Center in southern Seoul for the treatment of children with cancer and other illnesses, especially for patients who cannot not afford treatments, Kim’s agency FNC Entertainment said Thursday.

Kim made the decision after hearing about some young patients who were not able to afford surgery and treatments, according to the agency.

This was not Kim’s first donation for a cause. She donated 50 million won to the victims of the earthquakes in Pohang, North Gyeongsang, in December 2017 and another 50 million won to Seoul National School for the Deaf in central Seoul the same month.

Last year, Kim donated 100 million won to the Community Chest of Korea, one of the largest nonprofit organizations in the country, specifically for causes that help out low-income youth and for orphanages and day care centers.

She was registered last year as a member of the Honor Society of the Community Chest of Korea, which included more than 1,990 people who have donated over 100 million won. She was the sixth singer to be registered on the list.

Kim is 24 years old and debuted as a member of AOA in 2012.
