Posco International finishes a Myanmar solar plant
Posco International on Thursday announced it completed the construction of a solar power plant on Myanmar’s Manaung Island.Posco International President and CEO Kim Young-sang and Myanmar State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi attended the opening ceremony on Thursday.
Manaung is located in Rakhine State. It has around 60,000 residents, most engaged in subsistence farming or fishing. The area lacks transportation and logistics infrastructure.
It has three small power plants, and power costs are high.
Posco’s solar power plant delivers electricity to 1,000 households on the island, according to the company. A better electric energy supply could help the productivity.
