Song Seung-hyun to leave FT Island

Three of the four-member boy band FT Island renewed their contracts with the band’s agency FNC Entertainment, while member Song Seung-hyun chose not to, the agency said through its official website on Tuesday.

“FT Island’s Lee Hong-gi, Lee Jae-jin and Choi Min-hwan recently renewed their contracts,” the agency said.

“Song Seung-hyun will be finishing his activities as a team when his contract ends on Dec. 31.”

According to the agency, Song decided to focus on his acting career after many conversations with the agency and the remaining members of the band.

Song has been taking on acting roles in web dramas, musicals and plays outside of his role as the guitarist and vocalist of FT Island.
FNC Entertainment terminated its contract with former member Choi Jong-hoon earlier this year for sharing illegally-shot sex videos through a chat app with fellow celebrities.

He was sentenced to a total of five years in prison for rape and sharing illegal contents on Nov. 29 at his first hearing.

Meanwhile, Lee Hong-gi began his two-year military duty in September, while Lee Jae-jin and Choi Min-hwan also await their upcoming duty years — putting FT Island on a temporary break.

FT Island made its debut in 2007 as the agency’s first rock band, and has become popular across Asia for their hits such as “Love Sick” (2007), “Thunder” (2007) and “I Hope” (2009).
