총무는 채점을 하다 말고 잠이 들어 있었고 공동 주방에서는 누군가 한밤에 부치는 달걀 냄새가 가득했다 하지요. 어느 밤, 까닭 모를 불이 났습니다. 그곳에서 홀로 살아남은 작중 화자는 모두가 살아가고자 안간힘을 쓰던 그곳. 유성고시원 화재에 대하여 담담하게 서술했습니다.
The narrator describes that the secretary fell asleep in the middle of grading some papers and someone was frying eggs in shared kitchen. One night, a fire broke out and no one knows the cause. The narrator, the only person who survived the fire, tells the story of the day very calmly.

This is a story of our reality as well. Last winter, a fire swept through a gosiwon in Jongno District, killing seven people in less than two hours. Around 20 rooms, each with a floor area of just 6.6 square meters, were closely set together on every floor and nothing that could prevent a fire was inside the building.

The world was surprised by the accident for a moment but it was forgotten by people just like a flowing tide. Yesterday (Dec. 18), “JTBC Newsroom” talked about how present day is no different to the day a year ago. A gosiwon is a place where everyone learns how to remain silent... Seven out of 10 people who live in gosiwon are youth... Two worlds coexist in our society: a world that exists invisibly in the dark and a world with earthshaking issues like soaring home prices and government’s countermeasures.

Poet Park Joon talks about the reality of our society in his work of literature “The Story of Yuseong Gosiwon’s Fire.” No one knows about the cause of the fire at Yuseong Gosiwon. But Park said this:
