“I’m not sure where to began,” Yoo told the audience at the ceremony held in SBS Prism Tower building in Mapo District, western Seoul.
After conveying gratitude to his family, Yoo mentioned members of the SBS TV show “Running Man,” on which Yoo has been an M.C. since its earliest episodes in 2010.
“The show will be 10 years old next year,” Yoo said. “We have been through much together, both the good and the bad times, and I am so thankful to every one of the members for having been there for each other through it all.”
It was the sixth time Yoo has won the grand prize at the awards ceremony since its establishment in 2007. The last time he won was in 2015.
The show’s unique competition-oriented format and lineup of popular entertainers and artists have made it a hit among fans in Korea and in Asia at large.
“There are fewer shows like ours in the area of entertainment programs,” Yoo said. “All the staff members and producers are fighting against that trend to survive. I thank them all for their tremendous efforts.”
Yoo also mentioned Koo Ha-ra and Sulli, both of whom had appeared as guests on the show.
“I cannot but recall at this moment Koo Ha-ra and Sulli who were once with us on the show as guests,” Yoo said. “I would like to take a moment to wish them happiness and peace.”
Actor Sulli was found dead at her home in October, and her close friend and singer Koo Ha-ra was also found dead at her home in November. Police had concluded that both had taken their own lives. The two were said to have been suffering from depression.
