Jung Yong-hwa fights online rumors
Singer-songwriter Jung Yong-hwa, leader of rock band CNBlue, will be reporting individuals who spread false information online about Jung to the police, his agency said Monday.“We are taking legal measures to respond to individuals spreading false information online about Jung,” FNC Entertainment said in its statement. “We will be reporting them for defamation and spreading false information.”
Jung was accused in 2017 of receiving favors during the admissions process for a Ph.D. program at Kyung Hee University. Netizens then accused him of enrolling in the program to delay his mandatory military service. He was 28 at the time. Korean men are required to serve in the military for nearly two years, a requirement they have to fulfill after they turn 18.
Jung began his military service in March 2018 and completed it in November 2019.
Authorities investigated Jung for the allegations and found him innocent in October 2018.
“He was pronounced clear of the accusations, yet some people online continue to bring up the accusations and spread false information about him,” FNC Entertainment said in its statement.
“We have put together a team at the agency with lawyers and experts to investigate these people and their posts online. We have already submitted a first batch of reports for some of them and will continue to report others we find spreading false information about artists.”
