KCON 2020 unveils global dates

KCON 2020 will be held in Japan in April, in New York in June, in Los Angeles in August and in Thailand in September, CJ ENM, the organizer of the festival, announced Friday.

The annual festival of “all things Hallyu [Korean Wave]” will hold K-pop concerts and host programs on K-drama, K-movie, K-beauty as well as fashion and IT-related programs at each of the four venues throughout the year.

The event will be held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, from April 3 to 5; at Javits Center in New York from June 12 to 14; at the LA Convention Center in Los Angeles from Aug. 27 to 30; and at the Impact Arena and Exhibition Center in Bangkok from Sept. 26 to 7.

The festival in Japan and Thailand will hold a program called KCON Girls, where female artists and influencers will host beauty and fashion shows and concerts. The festival in New York and Los Angeles will include a program called KCON Rookies, featuring rising stars and new artists in the K-pop scene.

The festival has been held since 2012 and has been attended by a total of 1.1 million people over the years.

“KCON this year will focus on growing further by holding strong performances and events at the different venues,” CJ ENM said in its statement Friday.

The event originally started off as a one-day event in 2012 with 20,000 attendees cheering on their favorite idol stars in California. It has since then grown into the largest K-pop convention and concert in the United States.
